The Forgotten Midwest is a series by University of Iowa student Larissa Paxton. Paxton is a native of Wayland, Iowa, a town with a population of 966 people. Located in Southeast Iowa, many of Wayland's residents heavily rely on the agricultural industry to make a living. However, due to industrialization, family owned farms are dwindling in numbers and are being threatened by the growth of corporate farming.
Paxton's series is ongoing and addresses the issues of the rural midwest.
