Shimmering Shadows

Artist’s Statement: Creating this shimmer was inspired by a combination of a love of optics and a fascination with how one interacts with their own image. I make sure I learn something with every piece I work and sharing my experience of creation is just as important to me as the end result. This piece is an exploration of forcing the viewer to consider their own perspective in a new, distorted perspective—specifically in the scope of what it is to be a female. The overall product is a reflection of my thoughts on female identity, the power of shadows, and the wide influence that the eyes have on manipulating perception.
