Adrian Sandersfeld

Adrian "Dairy" Sandersfeld is a queer artist and writer. Born and raised in eastern Iowa, much of their work pertains to the queer, disabled, and neurodiverse midwestern experience. Coming from a studio arts background, they transferred to the University of Iowa from Kirkwood Community College to pursue a bachelor's degree in English and Creative Writing with a minor in cinema.

 

Allie Tokarski

Allie Tokarski is an artist living and working in Iowa City, IA. She received a BFA in painting from the University of Iowa in 2019, and is currently pursuing a BA in art history. Her work explores themes of pain and control, with a focus on the subjectivity of reality, memories, and dreams.

 

Ally Phillippi

Ally is a junior at the University of Iowa majoring in both journalism and mass communication and art with a focus in graphic design. This is her first time being published in Fools Magazine but she has previously designed for The Daily Iowan. Find her Instagram @allysonjade1 and her twitter @allysonjade17.

Cailin Hall

Cailin Hall an graphic designer, illustrator, and overall creative in Iowa City. She is a sophomore art major and dance minor. She’s excited to be a part of Fools for her third semester!

 

Callan Latham

Callan Latham is a freshman at the University of Iowa majoring in English and Creative Writing, as well as German. She is a poet and a writer. Callan loves to bake, knit, and watch the bald eagles on the Iowa River.

 

Carmella Furio

Carmella Furio is a freshman at the University of Iowa studying English and Creative Writing, and Italian. You can often find her sprawled over a notebook or vigorously yelling at Quizlet on her laptop. If you see her zoned out on the street, just ignore her, she’s writing in her head.

 

Faith Ellington

Faith Ellington will be pursuing her PhD in English from Louisiana State University in the fall after graduating from the University of Iowa. She has two dogs and drives a minivan. In her free time, she enjoys reading, writing poetry, and watching whale documentaries.

Kate Synder

Kate Snyder is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Iowa City. She is majoring in graphic design and international studies at the University of Iowa. This is her second time illustrating for Fools Magazine. You can find her on Instagram at _katherinesnyder_!

 

Katie Craver

Katie is a sophomore at the University of Iowa studying interior design, art, and communication studies. This is her first year publishing her work with Fools Magazine and plans to continue contributing to the organization. You can find her Instagram at katiecraver.

 

Katie Schumaker

Katie Schumaker is a senior at the University of Iowa studying English on the publishing track and studio art. Her work has previously appeared in Ache Magazine and Growing Pains: An Anthology. She's passionate about all aspects of creating and is hoping to land a job in publishing after graduation, hint hint to anyone currently hiring.

 

Kerstin Stillman

Kerstin Stillman is an artist based in Iowa City. She is getting her BFA in graphic design with a minor in communication studies at the University of Iowa. This is her second time being featured in Fools Magazine. You can find her on instagram @kerstinsmind

 

Lauren Arzbaecher

Lauren Arzbaecher has loved art since she was little. Originally from Brookfield, Wisconsin, she is fascinated by multimedia work that explores the human experience. Lauren is currently finishing her final year of studies for her BA in English and Creative Writing with a focus in publishing, along with a certificate in digital public arts. Any opportunity to be creative is one she jumps at, extending to various visual artistic mediums and most passionately to her writing. Lauren’s work has been previously published in Fools Magazine, Ink Lit Mag, and she is an online staff writer for KRUI.fm. She enjoys painting and photography in her free time and hopes to continue spreading art’s unique power to connect people.

 

Lexys Sillin

Lexys is senior psychology major at the University of Iowa and works as an ABA therapist. Following graduation, Lexys plans to attend a marriage and family therapy program, focusing on families with disabilities. Lexys uses her experience with a wide range of people to explore the intersection of psychology and creativity in her writing. In her free time, Lexys enjoys promoting sustainability in fashion and watching reruns of Grey’s Anatomy for the nth time. Her work can also be seen in Fools Volume 7.

Madalyn Whitaker

Madalyn Whitaker is a senior at the University of Iowa. She is finishing up her last semester as an English and Creative Writing major on the publishing track with a minor in communications. Madalyn has spent her four years at the university falling in love with nonfiction writing and the world of publishing. After graduation, she hopes to attain a job in marketing at a small publishing house somewhere in the United States. Until then, she's spending her time writing about anything that stands out to her on her social media feeds or on her daily walks around her neighborhood. Most importantly, she's learning how to write when everything about life feels insufferably mundane. 

 

Madelyn DeWitt

Madelyn is a senior at the University of Iowa studying graphic design and entrepreneurial management. She is currently a graphic design intern for the Iowa Athletic Department. Find her Instagram @madelyn_dewitt

 

Mara Smith

Mara Smith is a junior studying therapeutic recreation and human relations with a certificate in disability studies. She was published in Fools volume 6.5 and 7, but her piece in volume 8 is her favorite thus far. Mara joined fools sophomore year at first because she thought the people were cool, but soon after found her love for writing poetry. Outside of Fools, Mara is serving as the 2020-2021 student body Vice President. When not writing Mara enjoys riding her bike, spending time with her roommates — especially Ruby the ghost that lives with them, painting, and making terrible TikToks.

Megan DeRiemacker currently studies English and Creative Writing at the University of Iowa.

 

Meria Ivy

Meria is a senior at the University of Iowa studying journalism and art. Her work has been published in Little Village, Fools, and Verve Magazine. Find her Instagram and Twitter @meriaivy.

 

Miranda Jud

Miranda is a junior majoring in environmental planning and has earned her certificate of sustainability. She wrote this short story in a class called the Art and Craft of Environmental Writing. It was the first and only writing class she had during her time at the University of Iowa and was by far her favorite. Through it, she was able to read this piece at Prairie Lights for the Writers Gone Public Program. Her goal at the beginning of the semester was to get out of her comfort zone, and this class helped her accomplish it by being vulnerable not only in her writing, but also in life. “Foundations” came from a place of happiness and has brought the author nothing but joy since its creation. She still smiles every time she reads it.

 

Nate Graveen

Nate Graveen is an emerging poet from Wausau, Wisconsin. Nate has seen every season of King Of The Hill at least 16 times. They are just as confused about what poetry is as you are.

Rana Hewezi

Rana Hewezi is currently a senior at the University of Iowa studying philosophy and English. She has been previously published in Teen Ink magazine, Ink Lit Mag, earthwords, ache and witness. She is a former recipient of the Iowa Chapbook Prize and an honorable mention in the anthology, We The Interwoven: volume two. Her writing is influenced from her eccentric upbringing in Egypt, France, and the United States. She considers herself a cheesecake enthusiast. 

 

Stella Tarlin

Stella Tarlin is a sophomore at the University of Iowa majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in music. She's a member of the English Society, Fools Magazine, and the Hawkeye Marching Band, and she looks forward to being in her first campus publication.

 

Zoe Hermsen

Zoe Hermsen is a senior BFA student in printmaking at the University of Iowa. Recurring themes in her work include femininity, vulnerability, and rebellion; an inseparable set. Illustrating for Fools Mag is one of her favorite parts of her undergraduate experience and she would recommend it to anyone with interest in collaboration between arts. Instagram: @zoe_hermsen
